Wooden Kayaks

This past spring, I spent a week with my brother. All we did was talk, breath and sleep wooden kayaks. Thanks to his patience he and a friend taught me how to Eskimo role

This was taken on a day where we had thunder, lightening, and rain so thick you could barely see. It was a perfect day.

This guy, Tom, my brother, paddled solo around Vancouver Island BC this summer. It was a short trip, only some 45+ days and mild seas, 10 foot swells with 3-4 wind chop stacked on-top that. Yeah, I’m bragging . . .

Family Backpacking Trip

I’m not sure if I’d say hanging with a 3 year old and 6 month old is a “fun” backpacking trip. But it was great to get away and unplug for 3 days in the mountains of Colorado. And of course, no trip would be complete without a requisite stock shoot. Here’s one of my favorites.

MANA, Environmental Portraits

Anthony Reid is a “mixer” making sure the correct portions of the ingredients are in each batch of MANA. Behind him is where the peanut paste is delivered.

This assignment was awesome! It included photographing architecture and people and combining the two skills into unique images. I absolutely had a blast working with the MANA folks.

Yes, this assignment is as wonderful as they come. I was flown out to North Carolina, where I met “corporate” MANA, and then Matt West, marketing director and close friend, from NC we drove the 8 hours south to the MANA factory in Fitzgerald, Georgia, where the photography took place.

I might post more MANA work over the next year. But as of now, this what you get.

Now, before “eeeewing” and “aaaaweing” too much (kidding . . . kinda-of) over the image you need to know about MANA. In short, they are working to save the lives of kids that are starving by producing a peanut paste. You’ve heard of the mess in Somalia – right? Well, they’re sending product to save lives.

It was a great surprise when a past wedding client called. He was giving his wife a gift of a photo shoot for her birthday. It was fantastic shoot. We shot in two locations. Outside and in the makeshift garage studio. Here are there top selects.

The coolest part about the day and age we live in, is the ability to view other photographers work. Because of this, one day I stumbled upon photographer Joel Grimes. I was speechless. His work absolutely stopped me. This portrait, was inspired by Joel Grimes work. It is not nearly as awesome, or incredible, but I’m really happy with it and it was my first crack on these “larger than life portraits” that Joel Grime creates.

Practice. Practice. Practice. It’s the mantra of all great athletes, writers, poets, musicians and the like. So, when a willing, aspiring, and determined model comes your way it’s a gift. Numerous shoots later, Melissa keeps bringing ideas and thoughts and a cheerful disposition to our shoots. How she finds the time? I’m not sure since she’s a full-time grad student. A few of my favorites images, from a variety of shoots.

And this blog post would not be complete without a special thanks to Matt Oscadal. Matt, Melissa’s boyfriend, has been an invaluable help with totting equipment and gripping on all of the shoots. Here’s Matt and Melissa trying to stay on the ground . . . in some windy weather. Thanks again to both of you.

10 Year Premier, Vow Renewal Ceremony

Anginet Page, aka Paparazzi Girl, had a 10 year vow renewal on June 9 to her husband of 10 years Jason Page. Paparazzi Girl is a crazy amazing wedding photographer (check her out), so being selected to photographer her vow renewal was quite an honor. As you’ll see in the photos . . . it was a movie 1940’s movie themed event. Here’s a few of my favs. Also, shout out to Tye Eyden and Amanda Gideon for great help and crazy awesome image creation. Thanks much!

The Lady of 10 Years. Anginet Page, also known as, Paparazzi Girl . . . with her "other" lover - mmm, chocolate.

And before the show began . . . a little behind the scenes of the photographers in their bling, bling, bling “official” outfits.

What you can’t see . . . is we’re reading the camera manual. Finally figured out how to use C1, C2, and C3 – for all your canon users out there, it’s a clinch feature, that is worth knowing about – even if it took me 2 year to learn about. After all, when is a better time to learn your camera than on the clock - right?

And the photo “booth.” And for the record it ain’t a booth. It’s a backdrop. And it’s way cooler, since you have to interact with the photographer, giving way cooler images.
